Bryan:

I recall in an earlier post that you said it takes you 5 minutes to change main jets. Boy, have I got a story for you!
Out of curiosity, I decided to remove my float bowl to see what size my stock main jet was. Applying "red-face" torque with a stubby phillips, I couldn't budge any of the screws, and even ruined the slot in one of them. There was no room for my impact driver so I thought I'd better quit and remove the carb to do it right. So I removed the seat, disconnected the throttle linkage and a few hoses, and then removed the tank. There was still no room to pull the carb off the Jug, so I had to remove the battery AND the $#@&!# BATTERY BOX! Well, I finally got the Mikuni on the bench, and with it clamped in a vise, and using my impact driver, the screws STILL wouldn't break loose! The only option left to me was to cut slots in the screw heads with my Dremel's carbide disc. Using a square-shank flat-blade screwdruver and a crescent wrench, I was finally able to break the screws loose!Promising myself never to go through this again, I replaced all the screws, top & bottom, with stainless Allen screws. It turns out that my Main Jet is a #145. While I had the carb on the bench, I took off the diaphragm cover and pulled out the jet needle, to discover that it had the WHITE SPACER on it! The spacer is .098" thick, so I'm wondering if I should retain it, leave it out, or replace it with a .037" spacer that I found. While I have the carb apart, would you suggest a "juicier" main jet, say a #150? The only mods I've made to the breathing of the engine is removing the intake "snorkel" and replacing the stock muffler with one of less back-pressure. What do you think, O Savage Mechanical Guru?
